Clean Indoor Air Act
On June 13, 2008, Governor Edward G. Rendell signed Senate Bill 246 into law, establishing the Pennsylvania Clean Indoor Air Act (Act 27 of 2008). The Clean Indoor Air Act, which goes into effect on September 11, 2008, affects most indoor public places. Unfortunately, the Act also includes several exceptions, making interpretation of the law very difficult. As a result, the Pennsylvania Department of Health is leading a coalition of state agencies responsible for various parts of the bill to develop a standardized and consistent approach to the implementation of the bill, assessment of compliance and enforcement.
